Save our environment

Save our environment

Compiled & Edited by – Ashutosh Joshi

Today in present environmental scenario, awareness with respect to save our environment is an important aspect for each and every human being. We all need to be more focused and dedicated to make all possible efforts to save plants, water, forest  Sea, River and land to minimize the impact of Global warming. Apart from this there is one more issue of concern is waste management. Plastic, minerals, metals, and many other waste materials can be reused and thus we can participate more actively to save our environment. For reusing these waste material, we need to recycle the same through certain engineering process which are still cheaper as compare to original manufacturing cost.

RECYCLING – AN IMPORTANT PROCESS

What is recycling? Recycling means reusing and reprocessing something for some other purpose or bringing the original one back from garbage. On the other hand Recycling is the process of assembling trash to remanufacture new products which are usable. A number of products are recycled but the most common recycling process involves: Plastic-recycling, glass-recycling, metal-recycling and paper-recycling. Reusing the products for different purposes instead of throwing them is also a type of recycling. As such we are always saving a lot by recycling. For example –

·        We save app.16-17 trees by recycling one ton of Paper.
·        We can avoid destruction of natural habitats by continuous Recycling.
·        We can protect and save natural resources like water, wood, energy, minerals etc. by recycling.
·        As compare to manufacture metals from Ore, we can save –

1.      60% through steel recycling.
2.      40% through news paper recycling
3.      70% through plastic recycling
4.      40% in glass recycling.

Recycling of any product saves energy, let it be recycling of metals like aluminum or steel or products made from paper. Recycling consumes less energy than making the object from new product. Metal is one such object which does not lose its value even after it is recycled number of times. Not only the economic value, but there are many environmental benefits which has led to recycling of metals on large scale. The environmental benefits are:->

1. When a metal is recycled more energy is saved compared to make a new metal.
2. Pollution of water is reduced if the metal is recycled again and again.
3. Less consumption of water takes place while recycling metal unlike when new metal is made large amount of water is used.
4. As transmission of CO2 is less during recycling, air pollution does not take place in huge amount.
5. Recycling of metal reduces the need to mine the raw materials required to make the metal such as Iron ore for Steel, Nickel for Stainless Steel and Alumina and Bauxite for Aluminum.

‘Going Green’ is the need of the hour. As opposed to what we might think, it is not difficult to become eco friendly in our little ways. Lets find out what are the things that can be recycled.
When you say ‘recycle’ most people think glass, plastic and paper. But the fact of the matter remains that almost everything you use can be recycled. Cardboard, paint, electronics, pesticides, rubber tube scrap aluminium ,copper, ferrous and stainless steel scraps etc can be recycled. Recycling these items are important for many reasons. One of them is that items such as these contain toxic elements that are hazardous to human and animal health. If waste like this were to be left alone, they would also seep through the soil, polluting our underground water reserves.

You can also get creative with being eco-friendly in one more way. Donating your old computer or your mobile to charitable organizations or to those who have none is also a step towards recycling.
Recycling involves processing used materials into new products. Many things like glass, paper, metal, plastic, etc. are capable of being recycled. The main idea behind this process is to prevent wastage of useful material. Recycling also involves reducing the consumption of fresh raw materials, energy, water, etc. As a citizen of the world, we all must do our part in saving the natural resources as well as the raw materials available today, for a better future.
