Leader is to deal with change, inspiration and motivation. On the other hand Manager is to deal with maintaining equilibrium.
Leader is involved to have organization’s vision and Manager is responsible to implement the vision.
VISION – A VISION IS AN IDEALIZED SCENARIO OF WHAT THE FUTURE OF AN ORGANISATION OR AN ORGANISATIONAL UNIT CAN BECOME.

How ever we must understand that effective leadership is always to be supported by effective management.
Leadership is a human characteristic which lift a man’s vision to sights, raise a man’s performance to higher standards & builds a man’s personality beyond its normal limitations.
The significance of leadership is visible only in its absence. For example -

Indian cricket without Gavaskar, Kapil, Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
American industrial revolution without Henry Ford.
Indian industry without Tata, Birla and Ambani.
History of the world without Napoleon, Churchill, Kennedy, Nehru

“REMEMBER THAT 80% OF THE SUCCESS IS BASED ON ABILITY TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE”

Ability to secure desirable actions from followers voluntarily.
Quality & ability to guide people in their organized efforts.
Ability to encourage others to follow a common objective.
Ability to developed communication skills of entire team with result oriented attitude.
Ability to project with higher level of intelligence than an average of their followers with scientific thinking and accurate analysis.
Ability to have inner motivation drive with entire satisfaction of followers.
Ability to have vision and foresight ness.

Leadership Styles & Patterns:

“HE THAT WOULD GOVERN OTHERS FIRST SHOULD BE THE MASTER HIMSELF”.

To project an image of leadership one needs to use nonverbal communications such has gestures, posture and eye movements.
If you move from about four to eight feet away from the person you’re addressing, you might appear to be shying away from others.
Hand Gestures
Hand gestures provide an opportunity to project confidence and an in-charge attitude. Consider these possibilities:
Punching a fist into the air to mean “Let’s do it!”
Using a finger as a pointing rod to emphasize a point or direct others.
Extending a thumb upward indicating strong approval.
The politician-like two arms raised in a V-shape with the first two fingers of each hand also in a V-shape is a high-power leadership gesture of unity and victory.
Voice Quality and Tone
“How you say more important than what you say”. People often attach more significance to the way you say something than to what you say. A Forceful voice, which includes a consistent tone without vocalized pauses, suggests power, control and confidence. A whispery, wimpy voice detracts from a person sounding confident and being able to take charge.
To improve your voice quality, try these techniques:
Listen to your recorded voice. Keep repeating the same message until you are satisfied that sound is like a confident person.
v      Several times per week, visualize yourself speaking to group members and practice using the voice quality you think will convey confident leadership.
v      Preparing your self with knowledge of your subject to ensure confidence in your voice.
Personal Appearance
Your external image plays an important role in communicating messages to others. People pay more respect and grant more privileges to those who perceive as being well-dressed and neatly groomed. Even on dress-down days, the majority of effective leaders will choose clothing that gives them a professional look. Appearance includes more than the choice of clothing. Self-confidence is projected by such small items as:
          Neatly pressed, clean clothing.
          Wear straight neck tie.
        Properly cut finger nails.
          Trimmed and combed hairs.
          Clean white teeth.
          Polished shoes.
     Light perfume or deodorant may be used.
Reasons for failure in Leadership:
          Lack of Knowledge
Not being close enough to the followers.
          Emotionally immature - looses temper.
          Lack of human understanding.
          Lack of foresight and imagination.
Not being enough for their job - compensate by superior attitude towards men.
Depending too much on financial rewards.
Not consistent in their behavior towards others. (Partial or Bias)
Failure to cooperate with others for the working of the common goals.
